James Rosenquist (American, 1933-2017). One of the defining Pop Artists alongside Warhol and Oldenburg. He worked as a billboard painting, and the scale and visual language of that work informed his interests as a fine artist; his work uses obvious representational iconography (a pair of sunglasses) to ends that remain more elusive.
