Ruth Cooper is a ceramist based in North Carolina who has practiced and taught ceramics for more than 30 years. Her work explores the sculptural possibilities of hand-built ceramics. The large works presented here seem to blossom out of the earth, at once defying and elevating the earthbound materials out of which they are made. Cooper's work is inspired by accretive natural processes such as the formation of layers of barnacles on ships and rocks.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind, hand-built stoneware.
