Maiden Name and Mater Soap present a numbered edition of 15 printed bars of soap made by hand and hand-stamped in Red Hook, Brooklyn by Addison Walz (b. 1985, New York). The bars are double blocks of Mater's charcoal bars (made of all natural ingredients).
“THE DETAILS LEFT TO CHANCE,” is inspired by the last poem written by the American poet Lorine Niedecker (1903-1970), “Darwin,” in which the poet imagines the scientist looking back on his own life, contemplating how it took shape, and how it (like all things) would come to dissolve:
the universe
not built by brute force
but designed by laws
The details left
to the working of chance
